MINUTES – SPECIAL MEETING

TUESDAY, JULY 12, 2011

Council present; Mayor Doug Maeck, Councillors Ron McLaren, Ron Bennison, Bill Russell and Bonnie Gagnon. Staff present; Clerk-Administrator Brenda Paul and Meridian Planning Consultants Planner Chris Jones.

Ministry staff present; Lise Roy and Jonathon Condratto - Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing (MAH), Jeff Cole – Ministry of Transportation (MTO), Dorothy Shaver and Jesse Van Allen – Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR). Ministry staff attending via teleconference;

Debbie Laidlaw – Ministry of Northern Development and Mines (MNDM), Laurie Brownlee – Ministry of Environment (MOE).

Guests observing; Culver Riley and Lynn Loney.

The sole purpose of today’s meeting is a Core Team Meeting for the Official Plan Review. MAH spoke to how our existing Official Plan has served us well with only 2 amendments since its adoption in 1991. The review of the Official Plan is a priority of the new Council.

The meeting proceeded as follows: introductions, areas of interest/issues of interest from Council/staff, provincial role in the Official Plan, work plan for the Official Plan, provincial interests in Official Plans (each Ministry present spoke in detail), Bill 51 tools, aboriginal consultation and wrap-up. The Province requires a review of the Official Plan every 5 years. The new plan should serve us for the next 20 years, subject to any changes in Provincial policy.
