THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWNSHIP OF MACHAR

Being a by-law to provide for an Interim tax levy.

 

 

WHEREAS the Municipal Act S.O. 2001, c. 25 as amended Section 317(1) provides that a local municipality, before the adoption of estimates for the year may pass a by-law levying amounts on the assessment of property in the local municipality rateable for local municipality purposes,

 

AND WHEREAS the Municipal Act S.O. 2001, c. 25 as amended Section 317(9) provides that if the Council of a municipality is of the opinion that the taxes levied under subsection (1) on a property are too high or too low in relation to its estimate of the total taxes that will be levied on the property, the Council may adjust the taxes on the property under subsection (1) to the extent it considers appropriate.

 

NOW THEREFORE the Council of the Township of Machar hereby enacts as follows:

 

  1. That half of the previous year tax rate is hereby adopted to be applied against the whole of the current year assessment for real property in all property classes, being 0.004805635 for 2011 Interim taxes.

 

  1. The said Interim tax levy shall become due and payable in 2 installments; March 31, 2011 and April 29, 2011 and non payment of the amounts on the dates stated shall constitute default.

 

  1. On all taxes which are in default, a penalty of 1.25% shall be added on default and per month on the 1st day of each and every month the default continues, until December 31 of that year.

 

  1. On all taxes in default on January 1 of the following year, interest will be added at the rate of 1.25% per month for each month or fraction thereof of default.

 

  1. The collector may mail or cause the same to be mailed to the residence or place of business of such person indicated on the last revised assessment roll, a written or printed notice specifying the amount payable.

 

  1. Taxes are payable at the Township of Machar Municipal Office, South River, Ontario and must be received by the due date to avoid default.

 

READ a first, second and third time and finally passed this 10th day of January 2011.
