WELCOME GUIDE
The Township of Machar is located in the District of Parry Sound. It is comprised of 46,277.90 acres with a permanent population of 782.
During the vacation season, our population strongly increases due to the bountiful lakes and Mikisew Provincial Park.
We are proud to have clean lakes and sandy beaches to please boaters, swimmers, fishermen and nature lovers. The lakes in our Township are Eagle Lake, Bray Lake, and King Lake.
We are also an access to Cheer Lake, Deer Lake and Spring Lake.
This booklet is intended to provide useful information
for those visiting our Township or residing here.

ANIMAL CONTROL SHELTER
The Animal Control Shelter is located at 34 Quirt Rd and is operated by Marnie Wallace. For more information, she can be reached at

ARENA
The South River-Machar Community Centre is located at 1-A Lincoln Av. Public skating is offered and the upper level may be rented for social functions. For more information, contact the Arena at 705-386-2622.
ATV’S
ATV’s are permitted on the Township roads. Riders are required to have proper licensing & registration & abide by the reduced speed limits. A copy of the by-law is on our website. Please do not tear up public beaches or roadways.
BEACHES
There are 3 beaches for the public’s use. Bray Lake Park is located at 849 Bray Lake Rd. The Narrows Public Beach is located at 2389 Eagle Lake Rd and Eagle Lake Estates Park is located at 40 Angus Point Rd. No dogs are permitted on the public beaches & please do not litter.
BUILDING
Building permits are required and waste water/septic verification must be submitted. Contact C.B.O. Brian

BUSINESSES

BY-LAW ENFORCEMENT
An officer is available for any contravention of Township by-laws. Please call the Municipal Office 705-386-7741.
CEMETERY
Cemetery plots may be purchased at the Township of Machar Office for St. John’s, Bow’s and Siloam Cemeteries. One burial and/or 6 cremations are permitted per plot. By-laws concerning the Machar TownshipCemeteries may be obtained at the Office.
CIVIC 911 NUMBERS
A civic 911 number can be obtained for properties with a dwelling through the Township Office. The first sign is provided free of charge with a fee of $15. thereafter for each replacement sign.
COUNCIL MEETINGS
Council meetings are held in the lower level of the Township Office normally on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of each month (moves to Tuesday when Monday is a statutory holiday). To speak at a Council meeting, the details in writing are required one week in advance.
ROAD DEPARTMENT
The Road Department is responsible for the maintenance of the Township roads. If there are any problems concerning the roads, please contact the Garage at 705-386-2837 & leave a message.
TAXES
The interim tax bill is mailed during the first week in March & the final tax bill is mailed during the first week in August. Each bill has two installments; due at the end of March, April, August & September. Payment is preferred by cheque, telephone or internet banking.

Permanent trailers are not allowed.

DOGS
Dog tags are required annually in our Township.
These can be purchased at our Office beginning
January 1st of each year and MUST be obtained
by March 31st of each year.
EMERGENCY PLANNING
The Township of Machar has passed a by-law
approving an emergency response plan. “Be
Prepared, Not Scared” pamphlets may be
obtained at the Office. Other information is

FIRE PERMITS
Permits are required from April 1 – October 31,
but are not required for food or warmth. The
cost of a fire permit is $5.00 + HST. Burning is
permitted in the evening & early morning. Fire permits may be obtained at the Township Office, South River/Machar Fire Department, Eagle Lake Narrows Country Store and the Sanitary Landfill Site.
HISTORY
"Journey Through Whispering Pines” is a book
about the history of Machar Township. This book
is available at the Township Office at a cost of
$25.00. All proceeds go to the South River-Machar
Union Public Library. Additional information about
the Township may also be found at the Library.
Township pins are available for $3.00 each.
LANDFILL
Ratepayers in the Township of Machar must
obtain an entry card to access the landfill site.
There is a $10.00 deposit required. The garbage
must only be generated from the ratepayer’s
property in the Township of Machar. The disposal
of some items, like furniture, mattresses, appliances requires additional payment. Tires are accepted free.Please visit the Landfill at 111 Municipal Rd N, check our website
or call the Landfill at 386-0001 for more information.
LIBRARY
The South River Machar Public Library is located at
22 Marie St in the downstairs level. Internet access
is available to the public. For more information, please call 386-0222.
MEDICAL CENTRE
The South River-Machar Medical Centre is located
at 140 Ottawa Av. We have 2 doctors on location.
For appointments, please call 386-0512. An optometrist is also available. For appointments, please call 386-2925.
A foot clinic is held on 2nd Thursday morning of each month.

PUBLIC HEALTH
Public health in the Township of Machar is under
the direction of the North Bay Parry Sound District
Health Unit. Water testing bottles may be obtained
at the Township Office. Their website address is
